EXCURSION TO LONDON

Summer Term 2024: Super Ancient / Hyper Modern

The excursion in the summer semester 2024 took the studio to London, where students were able to explore the history of the location of the semester project, the Bank of England. The excursion began at John Soane's Library, where students had the opportunity to see the works of Giovanni Battista Piranesi and Joseph Gandy as well as original plans by John Soane himself. The programme continued with a tour of the City of London, where famous buildings by James Stirling and Richard Rogers were viewed and discussed. The following day began at the V&A and continued with a walk to FAT's Blue House and the house on Ivy Street by Sam Jacob's Studio. The day ended with a studio visit to Amin Taha's office at 15 Clerkenwell, where the students were given an insight into the daily workflow of
groupwork-architects. The final day of the excursion featured a visit to the extraordinary exhibition at John Soane's Museum in Lincoln's Inn Fields, before moving on to Saint Paul's Cathedral and the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects. Finally, the trip ended at the Tate Modern and was rounded off with a mixture of history, innovation and art.
