THE CENTRE AND THE EDGE

Studio Jacob WS24/25

The studio investigated the spatial and historical dynamics of Vienna’s centre and periphery. It focused on both, the Hofburg and key sites at the city's edge, analysing its evolution, functions, and architectural significance through detailed measured drawings.

The design challenge was to conceive two interrelated buildings—one within the Hofburg complex and one at the city’s edge. While the central intervention involved the addition, extension, renovation, or redevelopment of a chosen part of Hofburg, the peripheral site accommodated a new architectural proposal, establishing a dialogue between Vienna’s historical core and its evolving boundary.
