The Cosmic Tower
Studio Jacob WS25/26
Cosmic, because it is a whole world. Tower, well, because it is a tower. This project drew on ideas about the spatial organisation of the cosmos from diverse histories and cultures. These were combined with architectural elements drawn from very different (worldly) references to create a tower housing five different ‘communities’.
The central question asked how diverse programmes, communities, activities and spatial logics might come together with the practical issues of vertical architecture (circulation, cores, structure etc). Through this, exploring how aesthetic compositional strategies might also register socially and politically.
The Cosmic Towers are projects that suggest a tower can be a whole world, recognising that all buildings are models of the universe - or at least models of ‘a’ universe.
