TRAUMSTADT Delirious Vienna / Learning From Prater

Studio Jacob WS 26/27

We look at Prater (very closely) as a way to see the city itself. From historical research to urban analysis to propositions through the
following semester. Prater as a ‘dream’ city, parallel to the city of Vienna. Prater embodies, unconsciously and consciously, ideas of modern life: our relationship to nature, to animals, to technology, to human relationships, desires, dreams, fears, to the world.

"In the Prater, the boundaries that separate people in daily life
are blurred. Here, the bourgeois gentleman stands shoulder-to-
shoulder with the suburban laborer, and for a few hours, they
breathe the same air of carefree illusion. It is a place where the
strict, artificial hierarchy of Vienna is traded for a shared, primitive
joy.“

Felix Salten, Wurstelprater (1911)
